History
This is one of the four great towers (or “boulevards”) built in the early 16th century.
It was part of the Cordeliers monastery, whose church was unfortunately partly torn down to make room for Rue de l’Hôtel-Dieu (early 19th century).
Sold to a private individual as a Property of the State during the French Revolution, this tower was bequeathed to the Hospices de Beaune in the 19th century. Incorrectly called the “Bastion des Hospices”, it forms the backdrop for the prestigious Hospices de Beaune Wine Auction gala dinner.
As part of our guided tours, you will have the privilege of entering the tower and discovering the Great Hall of the Bastion des Hospices. At the top of the tower you can see a statue of the Virgin, which used to stand in the garden of the Hôtel Dieu
